Meet Damir – Founder, Instructor, and the Guy Who’s Got Your Back
Damir’s not your average engineer and that’s exactly why he stands out. He didn’t come from privilege, didn’t glide through school, and didn’t grow up with a roadmap to a white-collar career. What he did have was curiosity, grit, and a real appreciation for what it means to earn your stripes both in the field and behind the desk.
These days, Damir runs WellEngIQ and leads its training but it wasn’t always this way. His story started in a working-class home, more interested in footy than textbooks. School wasn’t his strong suit. But one early morning walk to class changed everything. He saw a well-dressed man, bag over his shoulder, heading home after a stint on the rigs. That man was a driller and his story of life on the tools, travel, and teamwork made something click. Damir wanted that life. And he was willing to work for it.
He started bridging the gap studying harder, getting help where he needed it, and eventually landing a place at university. It wasn’t smooth sailing his five-year master’s degree stretched into seven but he got through it, earning every bit of it through perseverance and problem-solving.
From there, Damir built a career in the oil and gas industry as an operational wells engineer. He’s worked across Australia from the fast-paced coal seam gas wells in the Surat Basin to deep shale plays in the NT and overseas in Germany and the Netherlands on high-pressure gas projects. He’s seen what can go wrong, what great looks like, and how critical well control knowledge is to the safety of a crew.
And now? He’s built WellEngIQ to pass that knowledge on.

Your Operations Manager
Vanessa Bajrovic
Vanessa brings a wealth of experience in business development, marketing, recruitment, and people management to her role as Operations Manager at WellEngIQ. Her career has been driven by a passion for supporting others and building strong, collaborative relationships.
Over the past few years, Vanessa has focused on balancing her professional skills with life at home, raising three wonderful children while supporting Damir through his demanding work schedule of four weeks away and four weeks at home.
One of the highlights of Vanessa’s career was her experience in account management within the well-control training industry. She found great satisfaction in working closely with clients to ensure their needs were met and exceeded. Together with Damir, Vanessa has long shared the vision of establishing an IWCF Well Control Training Centre, and they are both thrilled to finally see it come to fruition.
As the Operations Manager, Vanessa takes pride in ensuring the smooth and seamless running of WellEngIQ’s training facility. She is dedicated to creating a welcoming, comfortable environment for every participant, so that your training experience is both enjoyable and highly productive. Whether it’s overseeing the logistics or making sure your needs are met, Vanessa is always there to provide the support that makes your well control training experience a success.
